Watercolor Mosaics
Happy Friday!
Last night was our first Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors class that I teach for Mount Wachusett Community College Community Education. We meet for 3 weeks in my studio and learn many basics and techniques for watercolors, giving each participant a strong base to begin (or continue) their watercolor journey.
In our first class, we learned about the many household items that you can use to make interesting and exciting textures with our watercolors. It helps folks gain some confidence as well as understanding of water vs. paint usage and how to get interesting effects. We used bubble wrap, rubbing alcohol, salt, plastic wrap and a few others ingredients to experiment with and see the surprising reactions that the paint has to each.
Once we complete this exercise, we move on to creating a piece of art that uses these techniques and textures in a larger scale. And by taping off segments of our pages with really thin art tape, our projects resembled stained glass!
I am super proud of the participants that are in this class and their eagerness and excitement when learning to watercolor. They are all well on their way to a fabulous watercolor journey! Take a look at all their wonderful pieces below.
Can’t wait to see them all next week!
