Single Line Drawing + Watercolor + Textures = Gorgeous Paintings from MWCC Students
Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors: A Class Filled with Creativity and Color
Our recent Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors class was a vibrant and joyful experience. Students explored the playful art of creating single line drawings and then brought their creations to life by filling the negative spaces with color and texture. Using a variety of watercolor techniques, everyone discovered new ways to express themselves and add depth to their work.
The beauty of single line drawings lies in their simplicity and charm, and it was wonderful to see how each student’s unique style emerged. We focused on a simple branch image to start. The negative space — often overlooked — became a canvas for experimentation as our artists played with washes and color, adding texture and layers.
The supportive atmosphere of our class allowed everyone to feel comfortable trying new methods and sharing their discoveries. It was truly a pleasure getting to know each student and watching their confidence grow with each brushstroke. The energy was vibrant, and the creativity was flowing!
We’re so grateful for the inspiring work created and the connections formed during this class! I always love meeting the new folks from the Mount Wachusett Community College and look forward to keeping in touch with past students as well as welcoming new students into our art studio!
