Pineapple Mixed Media Painting Inspired by Lilly Pulitzer

Pineapple Mixed Media Painting Inspired by Lilly Pulitzer

One of the best feelings I have is when I finish a painting for a client and they see it for the first time. It's like a high, almost. Seeing their joy at what they had envisioned being "put to paper" really is such a thrill to me.

Today I gave this colorful and textured pineapple to a client who hired me to create it for a good friend of hers. I've done mixed media paintings for this client before, but never for her friend. So it was a little daunting at first, not knowing the recipient, their tastes and personality.

I drew a lot of my inspiration from the Lilly Pulitzer brand and their use of colors and textures in their pieces. I decided I wanted this piece to be bright, eye-catching and with some visual as well as touchable texture. So off I went into my studio and worked for quite some time on this piece. Took me a bit longer than usual because I kept adding, subtracting and layering. But the final result is one that I really love and it came out exactly as I had envisioned!

I presented the wrapped painting (I wrap my paintings in clear paper tied up in a rustic ribbon) to the client who was giving this as a gift to her friend. And I'm happy to say she said it was "exactly" as she had envisioned it and was thrilled with the final piece! Yay!
