Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting back into my art and finding a new routine now that my mom has moved on from this world to the next. At first, it was a bit difficult to fill the hours of my day that I spent with her but now that she’s gone, I’m getting into my new routine and new way of life. It’s sad, but I’m not dwelling. She lived a great life and at 83, she had a lot of greatness that she got to experience. So I choose to think about that sort of thing instead of being all sad and woeful.

I’ve spent some time painting some new pieces that are really adorable, whimsical and colorful!

These new paintings are all packaged up and ready to go and will be available at my open shop hours this Saturday (October 19) from 10-2. If you’d like to purchase them without a visit, drop me a note and we’ll coordinate!

As you’ll notice, I love to paint adorable birds, owls and other animals. Something about their innocence and sweetness is what I love about that subject. Truth be told, I’d probably just paint pugs every single day if not for these other little creatures that I love so dearly.

Small paintings and little ornaments are just a few of the pieces that went to a new home today!

What a beautiful Sunday today in Harvard! Gorgeous foliage and warm temps brought out not only the lady bugs but some new faces to my shop as well! It’s always so exciting to meet people and show them my artwork!

Hand painted black and white “Boo” sign with orange and black embellishments is an adorable little piece to hang on a door knob or place on a windowsill.

I’ve got some new Halloween pieces that I just added to my shop this morning (they’re not online ready for purchase yet!) Halloween is one of the most fun little holidays, especially since now that I have little kids, they get super stoked for it like I do! We love to decorate and put up all the little bits and bobs throughout the house each year. Although, I must admit, none of us appreciate really scary looking decorations, we have our share of cute and quirky pieces that bring us happiness each and every year!

If you’re looking to pay a visit to my shop, please absolutely come by! I’ll have the shop open next weekend (probably Saturday from 10-2). I’ve got loads of handmade cards, paintings, Halloween decorations and more, all just waiting for a new home to call their own!

I’m opening up the shop tomorrow from 10-2, so come on over, check out some of my new art pieces (I’ve got the cutest little Halloween trinkety boxes!) and visit with me for a little bit! If the flag is flying, the shop is open!

Right now, I’m finishing up some really cute Halloween projects. These are for art swaps with my friends, but I’ll have some hanging around for you to check out if you’d like to see how they’re turning out. They’re little books filled with cute little Halloween images, little pockets and tags. I love creating tiny pieces, especially little books like these! It’s sort of like a mindless paper craft that I can do while watching the baseball playoffs!

So, if you’re around and looking for something to do, take a drive out to my shop! Here’s the address:

361 Old Littleton Road
Harvard, MA 01451

I’ll have the shop open from 10AM - 2PM!

A Successful Open Studios Weekend!

One of my faithful shop assistants, Lea the Pug, stood waiting to greet visitors. Bummer for her that I ushered her back into the house before anyone arrived. But, let’s just say, somebody LOVES laying in those warm sunny rays that stream through the doors in the shop.

I’m thrilled! Seriously! This weekend was the very first time I participated in the Bolton Harvard Open Studios event that is held yearly in our two neighboring towns and I am absolutely floored by all the people that came to visit me and see my art! And pretty much every visitor made a purchase, which was so fantastically fabulous, I can hardly stand it!!! Thank you to everyone that came out to support me these last two days during my inaugural voyage of open studios and seeing my shop/boutique setup. It was so exciting to meet each and every one of you and I’m thankful that you all stopped by!

Hanging by the front door of my shop are my little hand painted “Welcome” signs. Some are blank that can be customized, like with your town name or last name. These are hand painted onto the boards that my little kiddos broke when they took Tae Kwon Do so each board size is slightly different but still very cool!

Saturday the shop was open from 10-4 and it was a steady group of folks coming to visit and see the art that I create in my home studio while my littles are at school. Overall, everyone was just so sweet and complimentary about my art, my process and my inspiration behind the pieces that I create. It was such fun meeting each person (and a few neighbors!)

Painted rocks and whimsical clay houses are displayed in the case inside my shop with eye catching color and fun little details. These were a big hit with the kids that visited the shop during the Bolton Harvard Open Studios.

Sunday I had the shop open from 12-4 and again, it was steady with more visitors and neighbors stopping by to check out my art and chat about the pieces I create. I even got to meet one of the town newspaper reporters (I see his name in the byline each week so it was pretty much like meeting a celebrity!).

This whole weekend was such a treat and I’m so thrilled to have met each of the people that took the time to visit me and buy some of my art. I can’t thank you enough for your support and encouragement!

So I’m wondering…. if I was to open up my shop for visitors on a more regular basis, what hours would you prefer? Weekends (12PM - 4PM) or select weekdays (maybe like 10AM - 2PM)? Would you want to stop by for a visit?

Whew!

I can’t believe it. After all this time, I’ve finally gotten all my ducks in a row and opened up my handmade art shop, located at my home. It’s surreal. And fabulous. And so much fun! I’m beyond thrilled with how today went with all the visitors who came to check out my art while on their tour of the Bolton and Harvard Open Studios.

Since buying this house about 6 months ago, my family has had a vision of turning the front enclosed porch into a little art shop with all of my handmade pieces on display. Our goal was to set everything up when we first moved in to get it up and running as quickly as possible, but with my mom’s health and being her care givers, we had to put that idea on hold so we could focus on her and her well being.

Sadly, now that she’s gone, we now have a little more time to devote to putting into our shop idea. So here we are, diving headlong into this little venture. It’s nothing fancy, nothing over the top. Just an adorable little room filled with sunlight and jazz tunes and colorful mixed media art!

Today was an absolute blessing! I never thought I’d have as many visitors as I did. The Bolton Harvard Open Studios event has been in the planning for several months now, and being that this was my first year, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. In the past, I’ve always done fairly large craft shows and events, with hours upon hours of tent setup and merchandising all of my art with a secret fear of each event having some sort of rain or crummy weather that would ruin my art. Talk about stressful. But now, I’ve got such a cute little setup and I don’t have to tear down, worry about rain or being unsure if the money that I put into the cost of the show was going to be made back. Now, my art is just up there on the walls of the shop for all who visit to look at and enjoy (which I hope they did!)

So thank you to all of the wonderful folks who came out today to support my art and visit the first day of my shop being open. It was an exciting day for all of us (my kids as well because they’ve been working hard helping us set up too!)

Hope you’ll come back and visit again soon! I’ll have the shop open tomorrow (Sunday, September 29) from 12-4 so stop on by!
